Phyllis' Cafe & Salmon Bake Reviews

A locally owned cafe in the heart of downtown Anchorage. My husband and I eat here regularly. Phyllis' features Alaskan caught seafood, and gives you the ability to ship some home to friends and family. The best value is the sour dough bread bowl with chowder, but my meal of choice is the crab cake dinner, which comes with about 6 mini crab cakes, potatoes/rice, corn on the cob and a slice of their homemade sourdough bread. For dessert, I *highly* recommend the mixed berry pie with raspberry and/or blueberry ice cream from an Alaskan creamery! It's a casual eatery, with a great selection of wines, and beer on tap, including some local Alaskan beers. Wednesday and Friday nights are open mic nights, starting at 8:30 and running past closing (kitchen closes at 11pm). The later crowds are generally adults and 20 somethings having a few drinks and having sing-alongs, though sometimes subject matter is inappropriate for children under 14 after 10pm. In the summer they open the outdoor area, which has airflow and is protected from the street by a wall of plexiglass on two sides. If you prefer a quieter setting, indoors seated near the bar there is a big flatscreen television they usually have turned onto a sporting event of some sort with the volume lowered. The walls inside are also covered in Alaskan artwork, from masks to paintings and poster prints, all for purchase as well.
