Phuket zoo Reviews
A zoo that should be closed down!! Jan 11, 2014
The Phuket Zoo is a privately owned zoo in Phuket. We had pre-booked the trip to the zoo thinking that the children in our group would be interested. However none of the kids were interested so in end it was 15 adults going to the zoo.
Having come from Singapore where our zoo is well known in Asia if not the world, Phuket zoo fell well way below our expectations.
The place seems unkempt, the animals were so skinny, the ponds had turned green with algae with a brewing pot for mosquitoes. There 3 animal shows, monkey show, elephant show and crocodile show. Never before had I seen elephants being chained the way i see they were chained here. The elephants were swaying from side to side as if there were on some sort of drug. They relied on us to buy them bananas for food. I wonder whether they were even fed daily. The cages where the rest of the animals were kept were in pretty bad condition, it seems like it can and would break at any time. 2 of my friends ran for their life when they had accidentally awaken a sleeping tiger in his cage. The tiger was so skinny and was charging and banging against the cage. My guess is that it hasnt eaten for many days and if the cage did break lose, the zoo would probably claim no liability (considering that this is Thailand and the dire conditions of the zoo), i doubt they even have insurance!!
In conclusion, most of us felt sorry for the animals particularly the elephants which had to be forced to perform stupid tricks to entertain us so that they get fed. This place ought to shut down for cruelty to animals. For the price we paid for the entrance fee, this money could be spent somewhere else which is more deserving.
