It all depends on what you are looking for in your Vang Vieng adventure. This won't give you the typical, "Friends" watching high that is offered by places in town. Rather, the Phoudindaeng Farm is 4km down the road on an organic fair trade farm that manufactures organic silk and mulberry shakes. Three cheers for the mulberry shakes and yummy organic vegetarian options, but ten cheers for the quaint restraunt and guesthouse that detrailed me from my indended overnight stay till a 2 week stay. Not only was the food delicious and the atmospher so peaceful and chill, but there are plenty of opportunuties to get involved. You can get a feel as life as a labourer, and volunteer to help hoe, or whatever the men are doing for the day. For those less inclinded, you can always ask to pitch in the kitchen, or do the laundry. The old ladies smoking the tea early in the morning are a little squeemish about letting your help because rolling hot tea leaves is a skill, but feel free to watch.
Also, the best event that kept me there was teaching the kids in the near by village/local tribe English lessons in the evening. These kids are hard core dedicated. Never have I found a group of kids so dedicated and willing. They beg you to come and teach, and then beg you to teach 7 days a week. A girl from England and myself had to kick them out at 8pm in the evening so we could eat before the kitchen closed.
All and all a great experiance, an amazing rest and a place you will never forget.
