Nice temples and park walk Apr 04, 2010
Situated just opposite the Royal Palace Museum is this hill area known as Phou Si Hill. The whole hill is dotted with various Buddhist temples and shrines, and affords wonderful views of the surrounding area. One of the most trivial things I remember about this place is the banyon tree which is growing there; it was from 1957 and presented to Laos by the government of India. I realise that the tree has a religious significance in India, but nonetheless, it seemed like a strange gift to give! Still it’s growing rather well and is a very prominent feature. The views at various points were really nice too and you get a real sense of how the area strikes a delicate balance between being untouched and developed. It was nice to stroll through and just casually come across various shrines and temples. Although the temples and shrines were nice enough, the most fun thing about them was the fact that so many of them almost seemed to be tucked away. I would say that this site is a little like a relaxing walk in the park and a temple visit. Well worth the visit, and the price is very cheap too (the equivalent of 1 or 2 US dollars).

A must-see Oct 01, 2009
As another reviewer stated, the most-accessible entry point for the uphill trek is directly across from the Royal Palace museum (buy ticket at booth a few meters up the hill). The free entry point (my exit point) is directly on the other side of the hill.

It is an easy trek, with stairs all the way up to Wat Chom Si.

If you can time it right, try to get up there for sunset views of the city and valley below.
