"There's whiskey in the jar."
Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy
Phonsovan is a relatively uninteresting place, with dusty roads and lots of construction work, not unlike Udomxai. But it's not the city itself that make tourists come here, it's the surrounding Plain of Jars. This 'plain' is actually …

These are some photos and a few journal entries I wanted to share from my first solo backpacking trip. It lasted 9 months.
In retrospect, I wish I had been on this site to write a blog in real time and learn from all the people here. Also, I just love seeing that map Travbuddy draws up outlining my route! I'll be adding my photos whenever I find some time so bare with me while I get them them up.

We got a bus from Vientiane to Phonsavan, skipping over Vang Vieng in the process; it sounded like a bit too much of a backpacker hangout for us, and we only had limited time in Laos. The bus journey to Phonsavan was long and hot. We'd paid for an air-conditioned bus, and whilst there was air-condit…

It was far colder than either of us expected. Bangkok is quite warm in February, but here is it barely above freezing at night. Our tour guide for the Jars is only a teenager. He recites the history as though practicing for a school final. At site number three (there a…

Laos was my favorite country in South East Asia because of its honest and inviting culture. There is so much natural beauty to acknowledge and many breath taking views.

My last days in Laos were full of fun and eye-opening education about the country’s history.
After our up-north adventure, we headed down to Vang Vieng, famous for its river tubing. Everyone I’ve met who has done the tubing has raved about it. You basically jump on a t…
