Fez for Lunch

After checking out of the hotel, we were headed back to Vegas, with planned stops in Phoenix for Brunch and Sedona, perhaps also the Grand Canyon if time permits (doubtful). We started out a little later than planned, and made the drive up to Phoenix.  We were making great time...perhaps too great, as Melanie got pulled over for speeding!  Lucky girl, she got off with a warning!!! We made it to downtown Phoenix where Matt's is, the Guy Fieri reviewed breakfast joint.  We foun…

I'd meant to go see Mickey’s Hangover or Scottsdale or some of the other wonderful places that Amanda has been telling us about in her Athewinn blog about Phoenix.  They sounded fascinating.  But I couldn’t resist going back to my favorite Phoenix place ever -  the Desert Botanical Garden.  And of course, we went in the early morning for the early morning light on the cacti and to see the birds and animals too.   The Desert Botanical Garden (1201 N …

Oh the wonders of the internet! I had not spoken with my best friend from High School in more than 14 years and we had even lost touch with each other.  I had searched for him but was not successful.   It turns out he had searched me out as well.   On May 15, I received an e-mail asking if I were the Jeremy that went to North Tahoe High School and I replied yes.  It was my friend!!!!   He found me through an internet search on airplanes.   I …

Christmas
posted by:
Dec 25, 2006 - Jan 04, 2007
Its Christmas Day in the United States which means that its time to leave the country.  Being a cheaper day to fly, not to mention the empty (or emptier) airports, we took a 7:30 AM flight out of Phoenix, through San Franciso, to Kansai Airport (KIX) in Japan.  This effectively removes all obligations for making Christmas day phone calls.  However, all of those had to occur on December 24th as a result of the trip, so no real benefit was realized in that arena. As expected, secu…

Arizona 2004
posted by:

My travels took me to Arizona in 2004. I didn't really know what to expect other than heat. Sure I'd seen it on TV and it looked like a cool (not in a temperature way) place albeit quite desolate. What I found was a place thats very hard to describe, but very interesting all the same. Arizona is predominately desert but not the sense that it's all sand. It's got a very interesting landscape, and the red rock fromations are stunning. I've two striking memories from my trip. I should preface t…

Spring Break 06: Phoenix Travel Photos

Phoenix is a cute town, very different from Chicago. We spent $10 a day to rent the cheapest car they had and drove to the Grand Canyon. On our way, we stopped in Sedona. It is a definate must do. It is another cute town where they have shops, cafes, and bike rentals. Sedona is right of the highway if you are going to the Grand Canyon.     Little did we know, we were visiting the Grand Canyon on one of the busiest weekends of the year and we did not book a ho…

Its still hot here, where else can we go?

We had arrived home.  Just as dusk was closing in on the desert our plane touched down on Arizona soil.  I looked out the window as we were landing and marveled at the unending brown terrain that stretched out as far as the eye could see.  Cactus and a sprinkling of scrub brush greeted us once more.  I had gotten used to the grass, trees and flowers that are common place to those in many other parts of the world.  But the desert has its own barren and sometimes unforg…

Our Very First Mini-Meetup (aaaawwww) - Jackson’s on Third
posted by:
Aug 08, 2008 - Nov 07, 2008
We chatted online, we chatted by phone, the time has come to make the leap and hold our very first Phoenix meetup (mini-meet, we like to start small).  Since the Phoenix area is SOOOO spread out and our Tbs come from all extremes of the valley, we decided to host this in Central Phoenix on a Friday night so everyone could come right from work.  The plans were set, the location was chosen, the time announced and the invites sent.  None of us had ever met (ALL of us are newbies) …

Leaving Phoenix

Dema and I decided that for the weekend we were going to take the Harley. So we packed and loaded up the bike and was on the road for Tucson at 6. The ride down was ok we didn't start to get cold until we were almost at Tucson. We made it Tucson and Dema said she knew where our hotel was since she used to live in Tucson for 3yrs. So we exit I-10 and ended up getting lost. So back to I-10 to start again but this time a different exit which may take us longer but at least we knew where it went …

Back in the big city, with traffic, smog, noise.  Quite a change from our previous locales.  We did enjoy our stay at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel.  On a visit to Metrocenter Mall, we found a unique shop selling local crafts made of silver and turquoise.  There were drawers full of interesting rocks from the desert.  We stocked up!

I leave tomorrow.... my house is not clean yet, the clothes are still in the dryer, the trash needs to be lugged down... ugh. This all needs to be done tonight, seeing as how I don't come back here tomorrow - I leave directly from work (leaving early) to the airport - so this is my last chance! I was already un-motivated, and then by the time I got off work, my brother had been rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery - he's fine, or will be, just his appendix; but my mother ha…

Received a free pass from one of the guys at the camera shop and decided to take a look at the botanical garden. The Desert Botanical Garden is located in Phoenix, Arizona, near the cities of Scottsdale and Tempe, on 145 acres in the midst of the red rock buttes of Papago Park. One of the current exhibits is the Butterfly house, and there was a long wait to get inside, but well worth it.The weather was overcast this morning, perfect for strolling through the grounds of the garden. I didn't bot…
