My sister was DONE (overdone) with living in El Paso, Texas! She invited me to fly down from Portland, pack up the Ford Focus with some light boxes, the two of us, two kids, and "Bunny" the hampster. We left El Paso, and set out across the southern deserts of New Mexico, Arizona, and California on I-10. Then, headed north on I-5 through California's Central Valley, the southern Oregon Siskiyous, and the Willamette Valley to Portland. (Tracie and the kids continued on to settle in Seattle.)

I hear there is no rest for the wicked. . . strike that I mean the weary. :)

You can find some good hiking fun even if you are trapped in downtown Phoenix or in Scottsdale shopping district. Just get on your trail shoes and make your way over to Camelback Mountain in Echo Canyon Park or Squaw Peak in Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Echo Canyon wins for hiking challenge and scenery in my opinion.

After three months living in Seattle I had to drive to Oklahoma for my next Army School. I took the coast of California cut across near San Fran, went down into Arizona, then straight to OK. All in all I had a blast, and was just on my own so there was no clock!
