Phoenix Lake Hotel Emeishan Reviews
Hotel that makes an impression Nov 19, 2013
The Phoenix Lake Hotel, also called "Phoenix Lake Impression Emei Hotel" is located in the Baoguo Temple Scenic Area (Baogusi) of Mt. Emei. A better address I could not determine, but it's basically a short walk up a hill at the end of the main street in Emeishan Mingshan Road), near the Baoguo Temple parking lot. The city of Emeishan, which just means Emei Mountain in Chinese, is not a very big place and caters mostly to tourists visiting the Emei Mountain Scenic Area, so there are a variety of tourist hotels in this area. This one didn't seem to have many people staying here, which was nice.
Phoenis Lake Hotel a fairly modern establishment, opened in 2000, and part of a subsidiary of Impression Hotel Management Company, the hotel brand name. It presents a blend of both Western and Chinese architectural styles in a garden or park type atmosphere. There are more than 70 boutique type rooms, some that open out onto a large breezeway deck with a view of the mountain lake, nestled in the trees. The views are more of a 'close to nature' feel rather than any type of vista, but are pleasant enough. The layout of the place is nice too and most of the rooms seem to have some sort of view to enjoy, but the lakeside views seemed best for a peaceful atmosphere.
The rooms themselves are not very large, but quite nice and plenty of amenities - large screen tv, bottled water, wifi, and breakfast is brought to your room in the morning to enjoy outside on the deck. The stay here was very confortable, quiet and peaceful. The outside deck area is especially nice to enjoy breakfast in the morning or just to sit and relax. The grounds of the hotel are also quite enjoyable to stroll around on. The area near the reception has some areas with tables and chairs to sit and relax, with a fish pool nearby to enjoy too, populated with Chinese purse redfish I think, though I am not exactly sure. They may have just been pretty ornamental fish, and not for eating.
This hotel also has a spa, sauna, cafe and a restaurant in the main building too near the entrance and car park, but we didn't try any of this and I simply note that it is there. There are plenty of restaurants located on the main street just down the hill, and it's a veritable food market here with plenty of places to choose from. It is worth it just to walk around and see all the foods on display here. There is also, of course, the Baoguo Temple nearby too, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) here at the foot of Mount Emei, and apparently the largest temple in the area, but with extensive grounds to walk around and enjoy the scenery also. We didn't have the opportunity to visit this temple, but I provide link here to that for those that may be interested in visiting it - (http://www.chinatours.com/travel-guide/chengdu/baoguo-temple.html)
