I forget. Neither Emma nor I can work out how long we've been here. We're measuring out how long we have before we need to leave in terms of how many malaria tablets we have left.
We spent two and a half days in Siem Reap, visiting temples and trying to visit bamboo villages. We hardly slept, due …

So back in Phnom Penh and as the title of the this blog suggests there are several sides to the country. The latest experience of the ugly side was a Tuk tuk driver in Sihanoukville on the way to get the bus back here. Our guesthouse was about 1km from the bus station a journey of less than 5 minut…

We were awaited by a cheery Cambodian who would take us in his bus to Phnom Penh but his bus was actually a Hyundai minivan for 7 people. With heroic effort we managed to squeeze in 6 people with all their backpacks and daypacks into the little Hyundai. Proud of ourselves we gave the cheery Cambodi…

For my summer vacation, I met up with Sonya's family in Cambodia for one week. It was awesome! Unfortunately, I didn't take a camera, therefore I didn't take any pictures. BUT, her family sent me a few. Biggest and kindest family. Amazingly, incredibly ridiculously cheap. Cheap isn't the word for it, it was almost FREE. You could easily live off of $5 a day, depending on how luxurious you are. I definately want to go back and visit them and volunteer.

I'd arranged to get picked up by the tuk tuk driver who'd taken me to the hotel the next morning.
First stop on the day's travels was Choeung Ek (The killing field outside Phnom Penh). I think the photos from both here and Tol Sleng (S21 Prison), which was the next stop, say it all. The rooms…

I was borned in Cambodia, and left when I was probably 6yrs. This trip was the first time I had set my feet on the soil since then. I went there with my parents because I remember where my relatives are. The trip had definitely enriched my life in many different aspects.

Hi All!
Just a short update this time as internet isn't great. Had a great time in Bangkok. Saw the Grand palace, Wat Pho, Vertigo Bar (open roof bar on the 59th floor of Bayan Tree Hotel - LOVED IT!), toured canals by longtail boat, visited China Town (great cookies!), strolled down Khao San Road…

It was another 6 hrs on the bus from Kratie to Phnom Penh. My next destination was actually Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, but the only way to get there was to go back to Phnom Penh. It was about 3pm when I arrived in Phnom Penh, there was a bad traffic jam on the way back, an hour more than the expected ar…

After a long, bumpy bus ride (they all are) from Battambang, we arrived in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh. Holy crap, this place is nuts. While it's still relatively poor compared to the rest of SE Asia, Phnom Penh is busy, fast, and hectic. The traffic makes even the most seasoned westerner cringe…
