Now this is about as heavy a day of sight-seeing as I think I'm ever likely to do.  The evening before I had booked in a day tour that would go to both the Killing Fields and S-21 concentration camp in the morning, then various palaces/museums/etc in the arvo. Suffice to say whatever was seen …

These are some photos and a few journal entries I wanted to share from my first solo backpacking trip. It lasted 9 months. In retrospect, I wish I had been on this site to write a blog in real time and learn from all the people here. Also, I just love seeing that map Travbuddy draws up outlining my route! I'll be adding my photos whenever I find some time so bare with me while I get them them up.

I'd arranged to get picked up by the tuk tuk driver who'd taken me to the hotel the next morning. First stop on the day's travels was Choeung Ek (The killing field outside Phnom Penh). I think the photos from both here and Tol Sleng (S21 Prison), which was the next stop, say it all. The rooms…

Phnom Penh holds contradictions like none other. Dust flies everywhere due to a lack of paved roads. If you are on one of the few main roads you may have the privilege of tarmac but dodging the landmine of potholes is next to impossible. Few intersections have lights and stop sign are non-existent.…
