The bus ride, though 7 hours all said and done, was actually quite painless.  The boarder crossing was made simple with the bus company taking care of visas, stamps, and all those logistics.  Arriving in Phnom Penh, we were mugged by tuk tuk drivers, not to our surprise.  We ended up…

First trip as a backpacker. I had great fun!! KL was nice but I loved Perhentian Islands the most...white sand beach...friendly local people...great snorkeling... oh, I miss there so much... Cambodia was great,too... you'll have very different feelings in the day time seeing how the locals live and in the evening enjoying yourself in a nice bar...

Probably the most emotional place I've ever been to.The Killing Fields are just desperate. I can't even contemplate what the Cambodians were thinking, to treat their fellow countrymen this way. The S21 is even more tearing of the emotions. Some pretty sick people are still alive, from the torture c…

We spent the whole day wandering around the city. Basically, we had to come back to Phnom Penh to get our visas to get into Vietnam. You cannot get your Vietnamese visa at the border, so it is important you do this ahead of time! It costs either $25USD (if you want it for the next day) or $35 USD (…

Phnom Penh was probably only second to Vientianne when it comes to the worst capital city I’ve seen. Getting off the bus we were literally swarmed by 100 tuktuk riders all wanting our business. It was unbelievable. Shane & I couldn’t move and couldn’t even hear each other over the sho…

We entered Cambodia by boat traveling up the Mekong Delta; it’s one of the world’s great rivers. (Like in Apocalypse Now, (the movie.)) From the water we could see many ornate temples and pagodas and floating houses. When the boat pulled up to Phnom Penh, the capital. There are lots of m…

My first time start-to-end backpacking trip and my first time in a tropical country... and it was great! We first took a boat up north to a fishing village and then went down to beautiful Luang Prabang, next to partytown Vang Vieng and finally to Vientiane. The overnight bus brought us to Pakse with an impressive two day jungle treck through Xe Pian NPA. After a stay at the 4000 islands we crossed the border to Phnom Penh and the temples of Angkor and went back from Saigon.
