I thought it was a place listed in the LP, until I found that place later, further down the same street. There was a huge, dimly-lit first-floor landing that lead onto my room. Cracked sink, old wood and peeling paint, like a fifty-year old railway carriage. We arrived in Phitsanulok yesterday evening, in a small and simple hotel that could in no way compete with the ones we stayed at before. But the place is clean and that is basically all I need. In the evening we took a tuk tuk through the city, with a stop to eat insects and drink whisky. I stayed with the whisky as I hate insects, either dead or alive. I'm sure they taste fine but the looks are a little to horrid for me. I picked one up to try but just holding it gave me goosebumps, so I hav...

A recent campaign by the State Railway of Thailand to rid their older sleeper trains of bed bugs has resulted in quite a few trains being temporarily taken out of service. When we went to book our train tickets down to Phitsanulok the aircon special express we were hoping for was no longer running and 2nd class non aircon seat was the best we could get. So we ended up being woken at 5.40am by the evil sound of our alarm. 20 minutes later and while still dark outside we were in a san...

Certainly not as extensive as I would have had it but the best I could do and still have a job when I got home. Four weeks in South-East Asia was once again with Eastern Michigan University, Cambodia was independant with most of the EMU group, then Colin and I split off and joined JenM in the UK.
