Phipps conservatory is a beautiful small indoor and outdoor garden located within walking distance Schenley Park, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh in the neighborhood of Oakland. The conservatory has a large permanent exhibit, including an orchid room and a succulents room, is fantastic. Additionally, Phipps typically has several rotating exhibits that change frequently.

The most interesting times at Phipps occur during the various special events. The December holiday exhibits include candlelight showings in the evenings. Recently, Dale Chihuly designed several works that were incorporated into the gardens with a stunning effect. Also, several evenings during the summer, the conservatory hosts its Garden Groove series in which local restaurants provide food and drink and a DJ spins on the terrace all for the low price of around $20.

Also, check out the cafe for some fantastic lunches.

If you are in or around Pittsburgh and want a little culture/art head to the conservatory. Right now it is exceptional with an exhibit by Chihuly.
