Phipps Conservatory Schenley Park Pittsburgh Reviews
Winter Celebration at Phipps Conservatory in Schenley Park Jan 02, 2011
We drove up onto the Conservatory early in the morning as they opened and our eyes were welcomed with the colorful festive decorations of Winter/Christmas Holiday season! We toured all 14 rooms and were greeted by "melted snowmen" in each room since the warmth melted them after they were built when the snows came, hahahaha. We saw poinsettas of every possible natural color in every room, Daffodils, Christmas trees of every type of pine with snowflakes, icicles, lights, decorative colorful balls and pinecones all adorning the trees. We toured the Desert, the Amazon Rainforest, the ferns, boiling bubbling fountain, one room had a train encircling the plants. It was a wonderful escape from the cold winter air. The smells just captivated our senses with purple, and white hydrangeas, orchids or every color. We enjoyed the crotons, banana trees, papaya trees, fig trees, ficus trees, kumquat trees and Mom tried to sneak one out but I swatted her hand away and told her the cameras were watching her. We saw coffee bean trees. The trees and plants were from Central Americas, South Americas, Africas, Asias. We totally escaped reality during our visit there. I had a major rush of nostalgia remembering what I saw in the ecological park in Ecuador when I went in Aug/Sept 2007.
Overall this is highly recommended to see and enjoy in Pittsburgh on a cold day!
