Phillips Seafood Apr 20, 2014
We had dinner at Phillips Seafood after catching a matinee Baltimore Orioles game and were not impressed. With the restaurant that is, the team did fine. Phillips has a great location in the old Power Plant building at the Inner Harbor and has the appropriate fisherman decor inside. There was even a guy playing guitar at the crowded bar. The food however did not match the atmosphere and location.

I started with a cup of cream of crab soup which was okay followed by grilled salmon with sauteed crab. The salmon was overcooked and dry and tasteless. My companions had the fried seafood platter and enjoyed it, though they felt it wasn't any better than what you can get at a fast food joint. The cole slaw that came with it they said was inedible. The bill for three adults and one child topped $120, and for that price we expected much better food than what we received.

Phillips has been around for a long time and is a Maryland institution with locations in Annapolis and Ocean City as well as branches out of state. Perhaps its transformation into a chain has dampened its quality, or that the influx of tourists from the Inner Harbor alleviates the need for consistent service. Or maybe we just happened upon an off night, an aberration from the reputation they have built up. Whatever the case, we left disappointed.
