Phileas Fogg Stavanger Reviews
Around the world in 80 days May 29, 2011
Phileas Fogg is located in the centre of Stavanger, only one block from the harbour. The interior is inspired by the adventures of Phileas Fogg. One area looks like a train car from the Bombay Express. The restaurant is decorated with every thinkable thing that has to do with travelling (maps, suitcases, compass etc). Phileas Fogg is based on an American concept and the menu is accordingly. They serve burgers, pasta, steaks, spare ribs, nachos etc. The menu is supposed to represent the different corners of the world that Phileas Fogg visited.
In 1872 Phileas Fogg left London on his historic journey "Around the World in 80 Days" accompanied by his servant Passepartout. He had to go through many dangers and difficulties before he could triumphantly return to London by 8.45 pm on Saturday 21 December 1872 to collect the bet of 20,000.
The restaurant is a bit dark, but both the theme and atmosphere are nice. Service is good and it´s never a problem to change things on the menu. We used to eat there a few years ago and I remembered it to be good. Therefore I was a bit disappointed when I went this time. The menu is the same, but the food was tastless. We had all ordered different dishes, but we agreed that the food was pretty boring.
They do have a few tables outside, but they are usually occupied by smokers, so not so nice if you are eating. The inside is dark, so it is not a place I would go on a nice sunny summer day. The interior and the atmosephere are nice and the service good, but it does not make up for the booring food. It´s not a place I would recommend if you are looking for more than a pint of beer.
Opening hours are:
Monday – Saturday from 11:00
Sunday from 15:00
