Phil Stefani's 437 Rush Chicago Reviews
Italian Steakhouse disappoints Mar 27, 2011
This restaurant is total old school Chicago; you can easily imagine a group of mobsters doing deals in a back room or basement. The decor is amazing and has been kept updated while still projecting an historic Chicago feeling. Service is prompt and attentive. Diners consisted of a great mix of young couples up to the senior citizen age range, probably a bit more skewed towards the older crowd.
The appetizer of beef tenderloin and arugula and cheese was presented nicely and tasty. The beef was thicker than usual for this appetizer but that didn't take away from the taste ($12).
For entrees we ordered a Filet ($36), Papperdelle with sausage ragout and goat milk ricotta ($17) and a seafood soup ($37). The filet was disappointing, though cooked as ordered it was fairly tasteless and didn't even seem to have been salted and peppered. We almost asked for ketchup it was so bland.
The Papperdelle was tasty, actually the sausage ragout was amazing. Surprisingly, the pasta was very sticky and difficult to manage with a fork but that could easily overlooked by the great flavors.
The seafood soup was disappointing. The lobster was overcooked and tough.
For dessert the three of us shared a chocolate mousse which was light and tasty and the presentation was amazing. Two of us ordered a coffee liquor, tasty but luke warm, and the third guest ordered a regular coffee.
The total bill for all the above plus two beers was $150 for three guests, certainly not a bargain but fairly average for a steakhouse. There is plenty of competition in Chicago when it comes to a steakhouse and unfortunately this restaurant does not stand out from the rest. We were disappointed and probably will not return.
