TRULY AMAZING Nov 24, 2012
We stayed an extra night in Battambang to see the show. The tickets were $10 dollars each.

You walk into a small scale circus tent. There is very little decoration of colours and props like in Western circuses. The seating area is wooden benches on an incline. Waiting enthusiastically outside are a troop of local children, i presumed they let all of the local children in free of charge once the paying audience took their seats, and true to what i thought, there came a stampede of delighted local children two minutes before the beginning. I thought this is wonderful!

The show starts with a group of young performers aged 18 - 21. They were performing their new show entitled 'Eclipse', that they were only performing for the second time to an audience. They come out flipping and doing impressive gymnastic moves to the music. They bring out fire sticks and start flippping them in the air. They perform in sync with each other and when things go wrong they just laugh it off and try again, which makes everyone giggle! The whole show seemed to tell a story and the humour and love for what they do that the young performers bring to their act enlivens the crowd, especially the awed children in the front. The talent and enthusiasm was infectious. The whole thing was like visual art. It was fascinating to look at and enjoyable to watch.

At the end the director tells the audience that two of the circus school students are now in Canada studying circus arts, the type of school that the Cirque De Soleil performers are trained at. The school in Battambang also teaches art and music to many local Cambodian children. This is the type of thing you go to Cambodia for!
