Phangan Sunrise Resort

This at first looked like a really nice hotel, we arrived after looking at 5 other hotels by foot but couldn't find any vacancy and the heat was almost unbearable, we talked to the reception boy and he showed us two rooms that seemed nice in an affordable price and directed us to the office to pay. When we arrived at the office a woman named Tukta awaited us and looked very bitter, she talked very good English but almost immediately started reciting the terms finishing every sentence with "..You will be fined 2000baht", when she finished I tried to reach by saying, "how about a smile ?", this made her very mad and she started saying "I don't have to joke with you, it's not my job to joke with you". This, needless to say made us doubt if we wanted to stay in this hotel, she acted as if she were doing us a huge favor by letting us pay for the room, but feeling the heat outside we decided to keep our head down and swallow..

Then she asked if we wanted to pay 3 nights in advance and get 10% discount, so we discussed that a bit and agreed to take the deal, my friend went outside for an ATM and I gave her half the amount in the meantime. She didn't understand why I was giving her only half the amount and decided I was making fun of her, when I explained and smiled she was a bit embarrassed but then immediately returned to the fact that she "wasn't joking with me..", then she took the receipt and ripped it in my face demonstratively, and then kicked me out of the office. When I asked the reception boy to the meaning of all this he was embarrassed and said that it happened many times before (he was a really nice kid.. to be honest). Because we had friends who stayed in this hotel we heard many stories about this kind of attitude even when picking up the laundry or asking simple questions. That night we ended up sharing a 4 bed bungalow at another very expensive place with another couple who got kicked out of the office for no apparent reason.

We came a day later and checked-in because we wanted to stay close to our friends, needless to say, the soup-Nazi girl wasn't there that day otherwise we wouldn't come within a mile of this place.

The following days was better in someway but it was very difficult to get hot water in the shower (either ice cold or tea hot) and they cleaned our room only once during our entire 4 days stay, and even then we had to beg for it, saying that our room feels like an extension of the beach. We tried to avoid this Tukta girl so we passed on doing our laundry, it's a good thing we paid in advance so we wouldn't have to deal with her. The pool crew was very mean as well, turning off the music every time someone splashed water in order to punish the guests. For the record, I wouldn't have stayed there another night if I was able to get a room at a different hotel, unfortunately we arrived too close to the FoolMoon party so every place we went was packed.

To conclude, I believe that the only thing good about this hotel is it's location on the beach and maybe the nice swimming pool, other then that, most of it was horrible, especially the attitude (maybe excluding the nice apologetic reception boy). This girl, Tukta was her name, wearing a receptionist tag, gave me the worst front-desk service experience I ever had in my life, add this to the staying conditions and you get a really lousy place..
