Petrozavodsk Overview

Petrozavodsk is a capital of the Republic of Karelia. It's in the northwest of Russia, between Saint-Petersburg and Murmansk, close to Finland. The city is located on the Onego lake, second largest lake in Europe.
Petrozavodsk was founded by well-known Russian tsar (king) Petr the Great in the 1730th, the same year as Saint-Petersburg. Peter the Great based here a plant that produced guns. Therefore the city was named Petrozavodsk (plant of Peter).
Now Petrozavodsk is a pretty small city, population is less than 300,000. Petrozavodsk is a starting point to go to the Kizhi islanread mored.
