Petrópolis is named after our emperor Dom Pedro I - and the neighbouring city, Teresópolis, after his wife Teresa. I used to be the capitol of the empire, and to the day, the city hosts a number of palaces and museums worth the visit.
It is also known for its cool climate amidst one of Brazil's hottest states, Rio de Janeiro. Of course, being in the top of a hill chain helps to cool things a little bit, making Petrópolis a great place to spend romantic winters.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil -› Petropolis, Brazil -› ...
Spent 5 days in Rio de Janeiro, went to the local forest, the old imperial capital Petropolis and then spent three days at Iguassu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina and Paraguay. Pics are my wife (pregnant with Claire at the time) and me.
