Magnificent View of Petra Feb 25, 2009
Petra by Night is a different experience of Petra. As normally Petra is seen during the daytime with all of its magnificent carved rock and red stones.
The ticket costs 12 JD per person. The show started at 7 pm, everybody gathered in the Tourist Center, just before Petra’s entrance gate. Then a guy gave us the instruction of what we expect to see inside. We have to enter the siq or the long tunnel which ends to the Treasury. They have put lots of candles along the tunnel and we were encouraged to stay silent and enjoy the magical air when walking in the dark. Indeed It was one special experience to walk under the siq, under dark sky above and lots of stars. Very wonderful and I almost forgot to breath realizing how beautiful the scene was, even more when we reached the Treasure, the tall building carved in rock, before our eyes, with lots of candles lit in front of us. We sat down and listen to some traditional music which after a while made us sleepy, but still the view was something difficult to explain. They served us a small cup of very sweet tea and we kept watching the Treasury and listen to the music. The night was very peaceful and serene, the only annoying thing is the smell of donkey pups which floating in the air. They really need to do something about it. The show lasted for more or less 30 min (but feels longer than it was) then we went back. The view of Wadi Mousa hills full of villagers lamps and stars in the sky was great closing show of the night! Pictures: courtesy of Chrys Part of the Jordan Feb-09 travel blog |
