Luckily my husband has a knack for finding excellent restaurants! He picked this one from a glimpse of an inner courtyard in yet another palace in Budapest. Sequestered in the centre of the Ybl Palace, designed by the eminent 19th Century Hungarian architect Miklos Ybl, Pesti Lampas is a quiet oasis away from the frenetic pace and noise of the traffic just around the corner. Soothing live music combined with subtle service set on quaint cobblestones creates a fabulous ambience making guests feel relaxed and welcome. We were so impressed that we dined here two nights in a row!

Over our two nights we tried three main courses, one entrée and two desserts. The entrée of Hungarian charcuterie was light and delicate and served with some excellent fresh bread. The duck trio with sweet potato fritters and an amazing chocolate flavoured blackberry sauce was superb. A confit duck leg, a sous-vide breast and a lightly grilled slice of duck liver showcased the succulent flavour of the duck to perfection. We sampled another sous-vide dish of echine of pork, it was tender, tasty and fragrant and was accompanied by onion mash and steamed prune cabbage. The cabbage was a lovely surprise; the prunes countered the blandness that cooked cabbage can have. My husband had the Loin of Beef Budapest style garnished with duck liver, chunky chips and interesting cubes of pea! The desserts were equally works of art, my Tiramisu in a chocolate cup was divine and the trio of homemade ice creams scrumptious. Every plate was a work of art presented with style and elegance. If we had been in Budapest for another night we would have eaten there again!
