I had an amazing time in Peru. Spent time in Cusco, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu and Lima. Adjusting to the altitude of Cusco was unquestionably necessary. The people, their crafts and the ruins of this region are simply beautiful.

Last night was very interesting... we went out to dinner at Los Delfines - The Dolphins. Was a very posh meal along side a window to a swimming pool maybe 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the 50m outdoor pool at the Lido, with two live dolphins. It was rather curious having them swim up along side your table and watch you eating a seafood dinner. They must get bored out of their tree but at least they aren´t being served for dinner!
There was a casino attached and I went in search of a...

After waking up ridiculously early at 4:30am to make sure I
didn’t miss my 7:20 flight, I get to the airport to have my flight delayed 3
hours. Not that surprising for Quito
Airport, due to its altitude, perpetual cloudiness, and well, being in Latin
America.
I finally get to Lima, which I won't say much about because
it didn't strike me as very unique or interesting, although I spent very little
time there and all in the relatively wealthy Miraflores area. L...

The adventure was getting over. I was flying back home, to my dear Lima. I was feeling happy, because I'd see my family and Gunther again, but also sad, because I didn't want to stop traveling, :( Well, I might be flying back to the States soon, hehe.As I said before, I wasn't able to sleep during the flight. Not because I was uncomfortable, but because of the interesting person I met. His name is Jean Pierre. He's from Montreal, has been in many countries all over the world, plays the guitar...

ANDREI - Had to bid Nicola farewell as she was due to return to England while Kerry and I met up with Budget Expeditions tour in the evening. Tears were shed after she left to hook up with her friend Gemma and we had to get used to travelling without her.
After, we had another little wander around the vicinity of Hostal Roma, then congregated in the hostal's cafe for the pre-departure meeting with our tour leader (Mateo, a Brit - the locals have trouble pronouncing "Matthew")...

Sky & me arrived to Nazca last night, after a long bus drive... We left Lima around 3:30pm and were at the hostel around 10:30pm. We were tired and just wanted to have something to drink and sleep.
Our adventure started on Friday morning. We weren't 100% sure about what to do in Nazca. The only thing we knew for sure is that we wanted to fly over the Nazca lines. I have been reading about them since I was in school, but never overfliew them. So, this time was the right time to do it. We...

So
it was about 8 in the morning when started the steep stair climb up to
the gate at Machu Picchu. The steps seemed to be normal in height, but
after a few minutes the steps were just too small, about four inches
high. I don't know what's worse, too high or too low but it became
agonizing and strenuous to our legs and knees. After about 40 minutes
on what could have taken 20, we stopped and rested five times to catch
our breath as the air seemed to get thinner and our our ...

Well here I am at the Lima airport after 24 hours of travel so far.
Yesterday after I had packed everything into my brand new pack ordered online from Mountain Equipment Co-op, I put the damn thing on on my way out the door and... oh crap it was sooooo uncomfortable! Really badly designed I must say. It was the MEC Walkabout Travel Pack and I strongly do not recommend it!! So Karen (who was also visiting us in Kelowna at the time) bought me the bestest present ever of a new Asolo Odess...

The photographs and books I have read for most of my life just don't do it justice.
I caught a cab to the train station early, early in the morning. I took the backpacker train, so no fluff. However, they did serve a really nice cocoa leaf tea that really tasted good and seemed to give me a little lift. The people on the train were not typical tourists. Those rode the Hiram Bingham train, which is first class and SPENDY. Those I shared a ride with me were very similar to myself, other than m...

From Vilcabamba south towards Peru most maps show a road going only as far as Zumba, a 5-6 hour bus ride away. In fact, there is a road, or more accurately a dirt track that runs south from Zumba to La Balsa, which sits at the Ecuador-Peru border. So I was in fact going where the roads do not go, at least the paved ones. The bus ride from Vilcabamba to Zumba was a slow one, the road was unpaved but in rather good condition, despite the few rivers and waterfalls that flowed across the ro...
