There's Gold in them thar hills! Jul 24, 2000

Perth is the city where they turn the nuggets found in the surrounding outback into the nice little ingots we love to love.

It's an interesting tour that takes you through the gold processing process and the history of the Mint, which is the oldest operating Mint in Australia.

It also has a very well laid out and informative museum filled with stories of the extreme hardship faced by miners, and of course extreme fortune.

Cases are filled with nuggets too huge to believe that they should lay undiscovered for so long, but when I say nuggets I mean "casts" of nuggets of course.

They will allow you to handle a real gold bar though, as long as it's still there when you've finished handling it.

At the end of the tour you could find yourself in the souvenir shops where you can buy a little (or a lot depending on your bank balance) of the yellow stuff.

Me? Well, I just got myself a gold plated medallion.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, popular international cuisine differs from country to country. By that I mean, that the average Joe wanting to broaden his usual culinary horizons might pop out for Chinese, or Indian, or perhaps buy some Greek dips and pitta…Minted Lamb. I arrived in Perth at the end of October 2008. As I have now lived in this city for almost a month and a half, I thought I'd list my favourite experiences to date (in no particular order): 1. So here we are in country number 9. australia. We have had trauma, jo and helen were lost in the big world of airports, but have been delivered to Steph uncle Ken house in the bush in Perth. Now on day one here, we have managed to have our…things we wouldnt have. Then went to kings park which looks over the city (which isnt very pretty) then went to the Parth mint.
