Sometimes it takes a visitor to your own home town to show you all of the sights. Seven years in San Francisco and I had never been to Alcatraz or Stern Grove. The best thing I learned from people visiting me in SF is www.simpatigo.com - it's like Google Maps meets Lonely Planet. Put in a starting address and an ending address and it gives you directions AND tells you about the sights you'll pass along the way. You can choose driving or walking directions.
