There are two reasons that people visit Gettysburg, PA.  1)  For it's rich civil war history and 2) Boyds Bears.  My brother and his girlfriend of the time were expecting their first child so we chose the latter option as our reason to visit Gettysburg.  On our previous trip we got to see the historical side of the town, this time we were here for the "fun" side.  Our visit here was a surprise to me.  Being the nerd that I am, I played along with the employees of...

My brother is one of the biggest Dukes of Hazzard fans I know. He has all the series on DVD and even had a friend that laughed like Cotter. He loves the Dukes as much as I loved New Kids on the Block. lol Since mention of this 2 day event to my brother, it has caused arguments over anything and everything from renting of a vehicle to acquiring hotel rooms and who's attending what on which day and who is driving.  My parents have never been to Nashville and they have acted like they alway...

Eastern State Pen. I don't even know where to begin. There are no words to describe all the feelings of walking through this prison. It was scary, sad, heartbreaking, tortured, crazy, lonely, old, and unlike anything I've ever seen before. This prison even had running water before the white house! Designed by John Haviland and opened in 1829, Eastern State is considered to be the world's first true penitentiary. Its revolutionary system of incarceration, dubbed the Pennsylvani...

Jim Thorpe, Poconos

To think I spent most of my life living only about an hour and a half away from it and just hadn't bothered to get up there to see it before -- can't wait now to go back for a closer look (but definitely in warmer weather!)  A charming little town, with spectacular mountain scenery. My husband's bagpipe band was scheduled to march in the locally famous Jim Thorpe St Patrick's Day parade and I actually wasn't planning to go...

This is the place where the quest for liberty, and freedom from the opressor, took its roots.Though the first settlers in this city, who arrived in the 1600s, were dutch and german immigrants escaping religious persecution, it was not until the late 1700s that the true history of the United States began. It was during the time of the Revolutionary War, and people were fighting the British Monarchy, King George's Armies, for freedom and independance. It was in this city where The Declaration of...

After  taking a seven year hiatus from park-benching (or much of any sort of public performing), I've finally decided to get back into action.  This is one of those rare phases in my life when I actually own a car, I headed up north from my temporary home in Harrisburg, PA USA to whatever town struck my fancy.  Came across an open air flea market here in Selinsgrove with a very "red state" ambience... people selling antique gun collections etc. etc.  Came across these...

I had waited for this day since 1979  when I missed the original exhibit in Seattle …King Tutankhamun at the Franklin Institute. I ditched the wheelchair since we knew they would have electric carts…yes, folks, electric chairs!!! For some reason Kj wasn’t very excited about my new-found freedom. She didn’t have to push me around, which I thought was great for her. However, about 60 seconds into driving the electric cart, Kj was ready to take it away and put me back in something s...

So it's hard to write reviews in the city you live in because there's not a blog attached to it so unless it's in the Main City most people won't see it... so here is my Pittsburgh review blog... all reviews on what to do in the surrounding city of blogs I just wrote, blogs I plan to write later and blogs I have already written. Just don't neglect my birthday vacation blog with more highlights!

When I left Norfolk, I took the Chesapeake Bridge and Tunnel which connects you to the northern part of Virginia, on through Maryland, Delaware and into New Jersey. Four states in one day. can't do that in the west! Parked at a little Elks Lodge in Marlton, NJ which is only 20 miles east of Philadelphia. The lodge was a small home and only open on weekends. A guy was mowing the lawn and helped me locate where to park. My first day in Philadelphia involved a walk all around the Liberty B...

King Tut in Philly
posted by:
Jul 21, 2007 - Jul 22, 2007
I found out several months ago that artifacts from King Tut's tomb were on display in Philadelphia which on a good day is only a 3-hour drive.  I knew that once summer rolled around, visiting the Franklin Institute would become a top priority. A little over a month after school let out, I finally made the arrangements to meet up with Lin and tour the exhibit.  Our only worry was the fact that we had been unable to buy tickets on-line since we hadn't known if we were going on Saturd...
