Phili

Today Laurel showed us around Phili, and it was a lot of fun. It was great just to see Laurel, but the added adventure of a brand new city made this one of my favorite road trip stops. We started with the Liberty Bell. Getting it out of the way, and it was pretty cool. Actually, it was VERY cool, because of the air conditioning (much appreciated!) Apparently some Philly schools were closed because of the heat--hilarious. Anyway, I thought of National Treasure the entire time. Not just at t...

how much pumpkin is too much?
posted by:
Jun 15, 2008 - Oct 12, 2008
One of my favourite things about the USA in the Fall is all the pumpkin food products available.  We really don't utilise pumpkins enough in Australia, and so when I am here I make the most of it.  For example, on Monday for lunch I had a pumpkin donut, with pumpkin ice-cream, and a pumpkin spice latte.  Am I overdoing it? I headed to Philadelphia on Monday night & caught up with our good friend Steph.  We had some dinner & then went out for excellent ice-cream - a...

Flying away
posted by:
Jun 26, 2006 - Jul 10, 2006
Today we flew out of the Philidephia Airport to Munich and then to Naples. Rachel's mom took us from Baltimore to Philly, which was insane, because we were caught in a torrential downpour on the way. Luckily we didn't expereince too many more of those during the time we spent in sunny Italia! We got to the airport and met up with Roxanne, Tania and Jackie, who were flying out of there also. We waited a lot, the flight was late, but eventually we were up in the air on on our way to Munich overn...

Goodbye USA!!!

Today Steph and I met at the airport for our flight to France.   My suitcase only weighs about 32 lbs, because we'll be flying Ryanair when we get there, and the limit is 15 kilos.  My life for almost 3 months is in a suitcase weighing 32 lbs and a backpack.  My last meal in the states: scooby doo macaroni and cheese!!  Who knows when I'll have a chance to eat that again.  The flight wasn't too bad; I slept for a lot of it, but we st...

Will we fly?
posted by:
Jul 31, 2007 - Aug 06, 2007
Our flight was scheduled to take off early Wednesday morning.  However, our flight was through Northwestern which had just cancelled several hundred flights over the weekend; others that took off were late.  With a layover in Minneapolis of just about an hour, we didn't have much room for travel difficulty.  My mom prepared for possible trouble by printing off all flights from Pittsburgh to Minneapolis and then all flights from Minneapolis on to Salt Lake City.  Checking i...

After seeing Mount Rushmore, we drove straight through until we got home in Pittsburgh. It was a looonnggg drive. We went through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio as well, most of which was in the dark, which is why I have no pictures from those places.

Philly Cheese Steaks
posted by:

I am so glad someone told me about Philly, it has so much history and interesting things to offer. I only associated it with skyskrapers (funny, I've no idea how to spell that word...) and boring city people. But it's the site of the first congregation and the signing of the independence declaration and all that stuff. It gets slightly boring after a while when you don't really know anything about this subject, and it doesn't relate to me being from Denmark. But in any case it'...

I had set an alarm for 4:30 AM and woke up and looked around.  Amazingly a significant crowd had migrated this way over night.  I knew the first thing that I should do was check the status of our morning flight.  That meant a trek back over to terminal C to see the US Airways flight status monitors.  Looked out the window and crews were moving snow around, dozers picking up and dumping snow into melting units in an attempt to clear the runways, but thankfully the snow itse...

I can't really remember which weekend Elane came to visit, but I think it was this one, Elane drove over to Kevin's place as she found out I was over here which was really nice. Elane is from the states but I met her in Melbourne so it was cool to see yet another familiar face during my travels! We played trivial pursuit and went out on the lake for knee-boarding and paddling around and things. Fun weekend! After that I was off to DC again.

Overnight flight
posted by:
Apr 14, 2005 - May 15, 2005
We left from Pittsburgh to Washington Dulles Airport. This was my 1st time to Dulles and I was not impressed. Then we boarded our overnight flight around 9:30pm to London Heathrow Airport where we arrived in the morning on the 15th. Although I have a difficult time sleeping on planes I did get a couple hours of light sleep. We were doing a fly & drive tour with Brendan Tours which the cost included our round trip flight, car rental & vouchers for our B&B...
