Penguin Island Tourist Attraction May 29, 2012
We went to Penguin Island at the end of April/beginning of May, and the weather was still gorgeous, quite hot and blue skies.

We paid for the ferry over to the Island, watching the little penguins being fed and a boat ride to see the sea lions and birds on one of the surrounding islands. You could get the ferry over to the island and back again as many times as you wanted which was good, however you should make sure if you are going that you take some lunch with you, otherwise you will have to get the ferry over to the main shop, which is quite expensive (although the food is good and you get big portions).

We thought that you might have been able to feed the penguins yourself but you are only allowed to watch. There is a lot of room in the penguin feeding room so you should be able to get a good view if you get there in enough time.

Also, while walking around the island, look out for lizards as they are EVERYWHERE! You don't realise until you look on the grass and down the sides of the walkways, but there are loads!

Also, check the beaches that surround the island, as there was a huge sleeping sea lion on the island when we went, and not many of the people on the ferry had realised, so we walked down to see it and could stand about 5 meters away from it which was cool! You probably need a couple of hours to explore the island, and a couple more if you want to sunbathe or fish.

The boat ride to the other islands is worth the extra money in my opinion, as you got to see the other islands and there was lots of wildlife including pelicans, other birds, sea lions and dolphins (only if they can find them on that day).

Penguin island is situated in the shoalwater island marine park just 42km south of perth at rockingham. The island is home to the largest colony of little penguins on the west coast of australia and is thought to contain as many as 600 breeding pairs. At daytime the most of all the penguins are at sea. After sunset they will go on land.

Other inhabitans on the island are five species of reptiles, more than 30 species of birds and australian sealions.

On the island you will find the penguin experience. Here you can visit and observe rescued little penguins.Penguin commentaries and feeding times are at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

The island is open during daylight hours with ferries operating from september to early june. You can also walk to the island by crossing the sand bar,but watch out!!!!!! weather conditions can change quickly, making crossing the sand bar very dangerous.

On the island you can go for picnics, fishing, diving, snorkling and relaxing.

Little Penguins and a lot of seaguls... Mar 30, 2008
Penguin Island is really something to do if you gonna stay in Perth for a while. It is not that beautifull as Rottnest Island, but still very nice to see and to experience.

You can take the ferry to the Island for 15 dollars, what includes a look in the 'discovery centre' at the island. In there you can see the little penguins during feeding time etc.

For the more adventure-type: you can also walk to the island. There are some sandbanks between the island and Rockingham. It's a 700 meter walk trough the water. It depends on what time it is, and how hight the waterlevel is. In the morning it is a pretty easy walk. After 2 pm you'll have to swim the half of it.

It is really quiet at the Island, a nice beach were you can go snorkeling (bring your own). A nice place to stay for a day.

You should go there if you got the time for it!

Kayaking to the Islands
On my day off I went Kayaking with my father and my sister to the islands off Rockingham in Western Australia. My father owns a kayak, but since it is only a 2 seater, we ended up going on a tour wit…penguins being fed. I have been to the island many times before and so I chose to go snorkeling around the island instead :) I got to see quite…
