Little Penguins and a lot of seaguls... Mar 30, 2008
Penguin Island is really something to do if you gonna stay in Perth for a while. It is not that beautifull as Rottnest Island, but still very nice to see and to experience.

You can take the ferry to the Island for 15 dollars, what includes a look in the 'discovery centre' at the island. In there you can see the little penguins during feeding time etc.

For the more adventure-type: you can also walk to the island. There are some sandbanks between the island and Rockingham. It's a 700 meter walk trough the water. It depends on what time it is, and how hight the waterlevel is. In the morning it is a pretty easy walk. After 2 pm you'll have to swim the half of it.

It is really quiet at the Island, a nice beach were you can go snorkeling (bring your own). A nice place to stay for a day.

You should go there if you got the time for it!

Penguin island is situated in the shoalwater island marine park just 42km south of perth at rockingham. The island is home to the largest colony of little penguins on the west coast of australia and is thought to contain as many as 600 breeding pairs. At daytime the most of all the penguins are at sea. After sunset they will go on land.
Other inhabitans on the island are five species of reptiles, more than 30 species of birds and australian sealions.
On the island you will find the penguin experience. Here you can visit and observe rescued little penguins.Penguin commentaries and feeding times are at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

The island is open during daylight hours with ferries operating from september to early june. You can also walk to the island by crossing the sand bar,but watch out!!!!!! weather conditions can change quickly, making crossing the sand bar very dangerous.

On the island you can go for picnics, fishing, diving, snorkling and relaxing.
