Pelican Sheep Station Tirrannaville Reviews
Tour a working sheep farm Apr 22, 2015
Between Australia and New Zealand, we probably have more sheep than all other countries put together. Ok, I may exaggerate a little bit, but we do have the reputation of having more sheep than people in both of our countries.
If you ever travel to Goulburn, two hours south of Sydney and either want to fill in some time or are in need of accommodation then this would be a place to visit.
The Pelican Sheep Station is a family run working sheep farm with up to 5000 head of sheep on the property as well as about 100 head of cattle.
Philip Sykes is the owner operator of the business and the person most likely to give the tour. He hopped on our bus, and directed the driver along the lanes dividing the paddocks of the 970 hectare farm. As we drove he explained all about his farm, the paddocks, animals, crops, the equipment and anything else we passed along the way. It was a fascinating talk and everyone on our bus was very interested in what he had to say.
After our tour around the farm, we pulled up at the sheep shearing shed and went into the shed for a demonstration of sheep shearing.
We were all fascinated and could have spent much longer than the hour and a half we ended up staying.
I can't tell you what their accommodation is like, but they do have farm stay accommodation too.
