Pelican 1510 for travelling photographic gear Aug 20, 2012
Pelican has been known as the case for travelling photographic gear for quite some time now.
Our motion picture gear travelled in either a clydesdale type hard case or pelicans and even today in the digital age. If I walked into any motion picture, photography or sound rental place chances are they'll have their gear in some sort of pelican cases.
These hard cases are crushproof, waterproof and weatherproof. Soldiers and filmmakers must succeed in their task. Their gear must reach their destination in order to accomplish their goals. Pelican cases have been known as what you use if you must protect your valuable gear from computers, photographic equipments to firearms.
I was watching a documentary travel show with Bourne Identity star Matt Daemon and they were out in the jungle and they had their photographic gear in pelican cases. There was even a scene where their boats flipped and they and their gear went overboard all but one case made it to shore safely.
I have also seen some really insane test made by crazy or bored individuals where they would drop the pelican cases off several stories with an egg inside and the egg was fine. One guy even put it in an open fire pit. The pelican survived all these crazy test.
I have a lid organizer and padded dividers but you can compartmentalize it numerous ways to suit your needs. There's even a lid organizer and compartment system for computer and clothes if you wish.
The Pelican 1510 has all these amazing features for durability and it also has wheels and it's a carry on size so you can carry it into the airplane with you. For anyone who's ever lost luggage before this is perhaps your only guarantee that you'll arrive to your travel destination with the travel items that you need for your destinations.
My gear travels in a pelican 1510 by plane and when I'm in a studio setting. However if we're roughing it then I just transfer the essentials in a Lowepro backpack. If you're going to spend the money on good high tech gear then it really is a no brainer to invest in cases that will protect them to the maximum efficiency. The peace of mind when I'm on the road for a shoot knowing that my gear is with me travelling safely is priceless.
My next pelican purchase will be strictly for the travel protection of my mac laptop.
