Beautiful among the conifers Mar 13, 2017
We came too early as we check out at 8am. Although is only 20 min walk from the center of Sinaia, but we took the car. However, no tourist vehicle allowed up there, parkings are available for free at the lower part. From the parking still 10 min uphill walk. Arrived at the gate unfortunately was only open from 9:15 in the summer time, we can't wait that long.

The castle was built between 1875 and 1883 in neo-Renaissance. This is one our main reason of coming to Sinaia, very disappointing we didn't see the interior. As we walk back down to the parking not far from the larger Peles Castle called Pelisor- it has lovely stone and wooden facades. Thus we have a nice morning stroll around

Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball Aug 18, 2015
The Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball is a recent tradition from Transylvania. This event is inspired by My Fair Lady Film (1964).

This movie is a film version of the stage play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. Since the first performance of the play in Hofburg Theatre in Vienna, Austria, 1913 the story of the flower girl Eliza Doolittle and the Professor Henry Higgins became a classic story of the XX century popular culture. The George Bernard Shaw play inspired a lot of musical versions and films.

The most famous film adaptation is My Fair Lady from 1964 starring Audrey Hepburn as Eliza and Rex Harrison as Higgins.

After the great success of the 1964 movie musical many people have asking them self about the Queen of Transylvania and the Embassy Ball. Many tourists when are traveling to Transylvania want to know more about the Queen of Transylvania, about the Royal Family of Transylvania and about the Embassy Ball?

In fact, Transylvania never was a kingdom and never had a queen. Transylvania was a principality and now is a region into the center of the Republic of Romania. But Transylvania inspires the writer’s imagination: Bram Stoker (Dracula), Jules Verne (Carpathian Castle), Terry Pratchett (Discworld), Elizabeth Kostova (The Historian), David Clement-Davies (The Sight), F. Paul Wilson (The Keep), Liviu Rebreanu (John), Ioan Slavici (Mara), etc. And also inspires the imagination of the travelers.

For this reason, we continue the tradition of the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball from My Fair Lady (1964).

We have chosen The Dracula Winter Castle from Arcalia to be the place of the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball. This Transylvanian Castle from the north of the country, close to Bistrita city is a unique palace with a huge botanic park. This is the perfect place where the „becoming” ambassadors, the travelers from over the world can taste the XIX century aristocratic balls atmosphere.

The time for the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball is the New Year’s Eve Night. This is the best time for the „becoming” ambassadors to travel to Transylvania and also the start of a New Year cultural ambassador mandate.

The food and the drink of the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball are the Transylvanian traditional food and drink described in the Bram Stoker book, Dracula.

The clothes for the ball attendees is formal wear, formal dress. Into the Invitation at the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball is specified black tie and long prom dresses or long formal dresses. To accentuate the formal event, last year the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball had a second name: Top Hat New Year Party, in Romanian „Joben Revelion”.

The entrance to the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball is making with the host carriages. The „becoming” ambassadors are letting there cars into the castle parking, where the horse carriage is waiting to bring them to the dancing ball.

In My Fair Lady movie, the Zoltan Karpathy is saying: „The Queen of Transylvania is here this evening; I’m indispensable to her at these official international parties.”

The Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball is an elegant international affair where you can be the ambasador of your country. Come to Transylvania and become the cultural ambassador of your country!

Busy and crowded, but worth the trip Aug 12, 2011
I was told by a local that Peles castle is the most visited site in Romania, and I'm tempted to believe it. It was built just over a hundred years ago, so it looks much older than it really is. It was built as a residence for Romanian royalty, who at the time was King Carol I and his wife Elisabeta. The castle (or palace) is full of interesting little quirks, like a secret door in the library, central heating, and giant mirrors to make the rooms look much larger than they really are. Guided tours last about 40 minutes and take place on the ground floor. You can pay extra to view the upstairs. It's a bit of a hike to get up to the castle (~20 minutes) but there are plenty of souvenir stands to browse along the way, and lots of vendors selling fresh fruit, homemade candy, and corn on the cob.

Peles Castle in Sinaia, Prahova County May 24, 2011
Peles Castle is the most beautiful castle in the Carpathian Mountains built by King Carol I of Romania in the 19th century.

Is one of the most important museums in the country. The castle was built of wood, stone, brick and marble and has over 160 rooms :)

And a link about how to get there:

Very pretty, Well Worth The Trip Mar 29, 2011
Peles Castle is pretty no doubt about it. Unfortunetly the road up to it is also filled with merchants trying to sell you cheap knock-offs. Still well worth the trip but does cheapen the experience a little bit. While your here you should really explore some of the hiking trails near by. The mountains and forests are breathtaking!
