Modern Art gem in Venice Mar 05, 2008
This is the one museum in Venice that truelly amazed me. The place itself is a work of art from the sculptural gateway entrance to the sculpture garden has a great view being on the bank of Venice's Grand Canal. It is actually Peggy Guggenheim's former home (her uncle, Solomon R Guggenheim, is the founder of New York's famous Guggenheim).
The collection includes masterpieces of Cubism, Futurism, Metaphysical painting, European abstraction, Surrealism, and American Abstract Expressionism, including famous artists such as Picasso, Duchamp, Brancusi, Mondrian, Kandinsky, Miró, Klee, Dalí, Pollock, the list is quite impressive. A must for anyone into modern art or art in general! |

Yesterday we got to go to our first modern art museum--the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. I was not expecting to enjoy modern art, but it was amazing--it may be my favorite museum yet. The paintings were very simple, and the museum was smaller and charming. My favorite was this gondola painting by Peggy Guggenheim's daughter… Padova and Venezia, Italy |

…vaporetta pass for the day, I left my friends and took my
time through the city to walk to our second museum visit for the day- the Peggy
Guggenheim Collection. This was a modern art museum, so I definitely enjoyed
it. The museum itself is Guggenheim's former villa, so it was beautiful in
itself. But I really enjoyed analyzing and viewing surrealist and abstract
expressionist works, some that we rarely get to see.

Today we expanded our minds by visiting the Peggy Guggenheim Collection which is a Modern Art Museum. It had some really weird stuff but I liked a few pieces.
