Great Greek atmosphere in Greektown - Pegasus Taverna Nov 26, 2008
Last time in Detroit we had dinner in Greektown and ate under a pretend grape arbor, listening to Greek music and nearly continuous cries of "Opa!" There are a lot of Greek restaurants in the area, but this family-owned, with over 20 years of experience seemed to be the nicer and we weren't wrong.

This taverna offers a traditional menu with authentic Greek dishes including the favorites: stuffed grape leaves, Greek salad, spinach pie, baklava, infinite versions of lamb. Retsina and Greek wines. Their large menu has not changed much over the years and includes over 30 appetizers and several types of omeletes. Pegasus offers chicken, pork, lamb, seafood, veal, beef, vegetarian and “traditionally Greek”. Furthermore they offer combination plates so you don’t have to choose.

As appetizer we had the classic hummus - tasty spread made of chickpeas, red peppers, garlic, olive oil, and lemon juice. As entree I got the Spanakoteropeta (Spinach Pie) which was made with fresh spinach and lots of feta cheese. Eric had Arnaki Bouti Psito which is sliced roast leg of lamb with rice or potato and vegetable. The lamb was very tender and was a good portion. Even though we were full we got dessert, one of the favorites Double Chocolate Cake which offered a generous chocolate fix without being too sweet or rich. To drink we ordered a Greek wine, first time I tried Greek wine. Well, it was good and kept me warm :)

Regarding the atmosphere I should say I found it warm and friendly. Decorated primarily in brick and wood with an open kitchen and large, wooden bar with plastic grape vines and fairly lights hanging from the wooden ceiling trellis. It's also sprinkled liberally with Greek statues and mini sconces that resemble Olympic torches. With the Opa experience, it makes no attempt to keep the dining experience quiet.

There is a certain old-world, no-nonsense charm about the service. Our waiter seemed to be not only Greek but also part of the Pegasus family, like he’d been there forever. He served effortlessly but without exaggerated attentiveness.

I recommend this place if you are looking for a Greek experience in Detroit.

Pegasus Expierence Jul 27, 2008
Thought this would be a great review for all to see. Please stop by this nice Greek restaurant when you visit Greek Town Detroit. The food was outstanding and authenticly done, to have me wanting more. The waitress we had was extremely friendly and welcoming too. I had the Moussaka and also some Spanakopita, which turned out delicious. For the appetizer we enjoyed the Saganaki, kasseri cheese (served with a cool flame)===> not to mention "Opa"! This is not hard to find and located in the heart of greek town. Come ready for food and empty enough to handle it. Oh deserts are hard to decide but you will probably be too full as I was, enjoy tbuddies!
