Peery's Egyptian Theater Ogden Reviews
Cool Old Theater Feb 04, 2015
When all of the screenings for a Sundance Film Festival movie sold out in Park City, we decided to make the trek to see it at Peery's in Ogden. I'm so glad we did! This restored old theater is so cool! I wouldn't describe it as "gorgeous," but it's definitely "special." The cool Egyptian theme is carried throughout the theater (and I'm sure there are preteen boys who like to get their eyes full at the topless woman painted up high) and it is befitting for such a cool movie palace!
The seats are comfortable and the screen is large. There's also a new state-of-the-art sound system that was simply incredible. Seeing a movie here was indeed a special experience, with a grandiose display of curtain after velvet curtain slowly peeling back and opening to expose the movie screen. What a show! That's what movies are all about, man!
Sit down front for the best view of the theater's organ! We were treated to a pre-show "concert" of classic showtunes from a little old man who looked to be 95 years old, all decked out in a tuxedo with hearing aids the size of Buicks. Once he was done playing, he "rode" the organ down on a descending platform. Super cool.
There's ample free parking on the street directly around the corner from the theater (a huge change from the $25 - $60 parking lots in Park City), and they sell beer and wine along with movie snacks. This is one of the best kept secret venues of the Sundance Film Festival, and if you are willing to drive about an hour from Park City, you'll be handsomely rewarded.
