Pedal Pub Minneapolis Reviews
It's Slow Fun (drinking and pedaling) Jun 11, 2011
Pedal Pub is a crazy bike built for 16 that surrounds a bar. You sit on a bike seat facing the "bar" and pedal around town with a bunch of your friends. You can drink while pedaling and you can also choose to stop at some bars along the way. It really is crazy fun!
The Pedal Pub has 12 bike seats (10 with pedals), a backseat for people too short to pedal, a "bar" in the middle, and a driver that steers. You can drink beer and wine while pedaling and the bike seats face a bar counter with a cup holder. You and your group pedal along at a slow pace along one of several routes in downtown Minneapolis, Dinkytown, along the river, on Nicollet Mall, in St. Paul, or another route of your choice.
You bring your own food and drink and move along at your own pace. Maximum speed is about 5 mph. Hills and stoplights are killer to get going again. It is also really tough when some of your fellow pedalers have had too much to drink and are no help with pedaling...
Tours are offered several times a day in a 2 or 3 hour slot. The pub crawls are generally from 8-10 pm, but you can also take them earlier in the day. The scenic routes can be taken whenever. We did a pub crawl through downtown Minneapolis that included crossing the Mississippi River (twice), a run down Nicollet Mall (a pedestrian and public transportation only street), with a quick stop at Kieran's Irish Pub and another bar/White Castle stop.
It was a lot of fun, but a lot of work when people weren't pedaling. We had a lot of laughs and drank a few beers while pedaling around Minneapolis. It was a fun couple of hours, but we felt rushed at the Pub stops and were tired, sore and sweaty when done.
If you don't have a bunch of friends to help pedal, you can join a mixer tour. We did our tour as part of fundraising for the Walk for the Cure (breast cancer), hence all the pink :) It was such a fun, crazy experience that I'm glad I did it. Definitely not something I'd do every weekend, though I did hear that they have pedal pub races...
