Pearl Guest House (10/F) Hong Kong Reviews
Cheap and clean Feb 01, 2015
Cheap, cheap, and cheap is the best description for this place. Location wise is fantastic, it is at Nathan Road the famous and notorious place, where the Chung King Mansion located. The place is a couple department stores from it. It is within walking distant to the star ferry terminal (around ten minutes’ walk), night market and ladies market, Wong Tai Sin Temple and Chilin Nunnery. Very easy to go everywhere as the public transport is excellent.
The Tsim Sha Tsui MTR entrance is right at the corner of the department store where the guest house located, the bus stop at the opposite building.
The room advertise by Agoda.com is 13sqm for the price of usd45 for two people without breakfast.
I personally a bit sceptical about this place, however after seeing the photos of the place and a very good review from the previous guest which mention that the room is exactly the same as the pictures on the website, so we booked it just for the shake of the cheapness and experience.
We arrived at late afternoon and we have a bit difficulty to find the elevator inside the shopping mall, since the guest house located above the mall. Once we find it, we queue for it – and there is a security woman guarding the elevator and keep the people in line.
Once reach the level of the guesthouse building, we go around and around, could not find the guesthouse. Finally, we find it as it located at the corner. We press the bell to speak with the staff and the staff open the door automatically and tell us our room number – it appears the room is unlock and the key is inside the room.
We hallway was clean and smell the cleaner product. Our room is tiny – the smaller room we have stay in. However it was clean and exactly like the photos in the website.
It has big window facing the main street. The room has everything we need, air condition, private bathroom with toiletries and working hot and cold water, safe deposit box, a small table, television, telephone and even small refrigerator. Internet is free inside the room, fast and reliable.
The guesthouse provide free two mineral water bottles in the room and big mineral water at the hall way where we can fill in our water bottles every day. In addition to this, the guesthouse also provide a microwave for guests who wants to heat their food.
For us, we prefer eat outside since so many restaurants nearby to try and not bother with cooking and cleaning.
The clean towels provide freely and the cleaner clean the room every day.
They also provide laundry service (more like washing) but on high price, cost usd1 per piece clothing. We did not use this service since we thought it was expensive and prefer to use the washing machine coin.
At night time, it was okay, we can sleep well as it was not that noisy. However in the morning we can hear a lot of noise from the hallway and the traffic down below. When we check out, we basically just leave the key inside the room and ring the reception to inform her that we check out in the morning.
For the price and cleanness, it was really good place to stay if you are on budget.
I am not sure if I will come back to this place as I like a big room with soft bed (it is very hard bed at this place), but it is really clean room and good value for money.

The hotel in the flat Feb 02, 2015
The airport bus drives up and down the busy Nathan Road when it goes to Kowloon from the airport. this is pretty convenient since the hotel is located right in the Mirador Mansion the building is the location of a lot of shops in the lower floor while the upper floors seems to be the home to a strange mix of apartments, small businesses operated out of the apartments and a collection of small guesthouses. This guesthouse is just one of these many guesthouses.
The Pearl Guest House is located in one of the apartments in the building. It is a bit strange when arriving to the apartment since the numbering of the elevators and apartments are a bit confusing. There are elevators in several different parts of the Mirador Mansion leading up to different sections of the building - the system is obvious at first but it turns out you can just walk around the building which is build around a courtyard where the local resident hang their clothing out to dry. The elevators are all placed in pairs - and you have to go on a specific one of the elevators since one only stop at the odd numbered floors and the other stops at the even numbered floors. The elevators are really slow with a low loading capacity and a lot of people use them - hence there tend to be a queue in front of the elevators. When going up it isn’t so much of a problem but when going down it can be since the elevator usually goes to the top 16th floor first and if it fills up before it gets down to us on the tenth floor it might be full just go all the way down.
After overcoming the elevator confusion it is time to get to the door of the guest house. The door is locked and there is no reception inside - so you just have to use the intercom located outside the door and a receptionist which may or may not be located at the 13th floor opens the door - I never saw the actual reception of this place. After getting in the front door you get into a long hall with no windows and you can walk down to the room around the corner. The room is small and very basic - there are a couple of beds, a small desk and a television and nothing else. The bathroom is tiny as well - I figure the total size of the room is not much more than 8 square meters - hence it isn’t a good place in case you are suffering claustrophobia.
The room and place are basic but for the price and location it is worth to stay. The room is kept clean and there is free water available most of the time - though it might run out late at night or early in the morning. hence if you might better fill up on water before you go to bed since there might not be any left when you want a drink later a night or in the morning.
