Buddhist Peace Pagoda: beautiful surprise in the middle of the countryside. Jun 07, 2011
Buddhist Peace Pagoda: beautiful surprise in the middle of the countryside.

The Buddhist peace pagoda was built in September 1980 by monks and nuns and was the first of its kind to be built in the western world.

I was at on a bike ride around Willen Lake when I came across this Buddhist Peace Pagoda, I was really surprised and shocked to find something so beautiful and so randomly placed. I have visited many Pagoda’s on my travels around the world and this one is just as beautiful as the ones you may find in Thailand.

This is also a information board at the bottom of the steps which lend up to the Pagoda which explains all about the site. I remember it stating something about the area being surrounded by cherry trees which were donated by Japan and represent all the victims in wars.

This is definitely worth visiting and you can also rent bikes from the Willen Lake centre and have a ride around the lake, which is also a beautiful area.

Pure peacefulness Jun 21, 2007
The Peace Pagoda in Milton Keynes was the first one built in the western world (1980).

It's pretty small and not comparable to the one in London. However, it's easy to get there and you can enjoy a really peaceful atmosphere thanks to the fact that there next street/City building is several hundred meters away.
