Pavones Vacation Guide
Pavones is almost as far south as you can go in Costa Rica!
Only Punta Banco lies between here and Panama and it takes around 8 hours to get here, on the bus from San Jose.
Pavones is a town with a 'split personality' disorder!
For much of the time, it masquerades as a sleepy fishing village, however...when the waves are good and a swell is in town, expect to see the population explode from nowhere!
All of a sudden, the place is transformed, with both Tico's and surf fanatics from all over the world making pilgrimage to the 'surfing mecca', hoping to ride the legendary left hander! (Reputedly, THE longest left hand wave in the World!) On a good day, you can ride a single wave for distances of up to 1 kilometre!
There are lots of places to stay here; Hostels & Hotels to suit all budgets.
Food wise, you can either eat where you sleep, or locally, with Costa Rican, Italian & Mexican options all available. A pulperia, (general store) and small Supermarket sell snacks and International Phonecards for use at the payphones in town. There is also a Surf shop where you can rent and buy boards and 'bits' and a Souvenir Store, where you can buy...duh...souvenirs!
Bring cash, as there are no ATM's or banks in the area! (Colones better, but dollars are accepted).

Pavones Travel Blogs
Jul 19, 2007 – Jul 30, 2007
10 day surf trip to Costa Rica with Dave (Buffetrand). Annoying roosters, rampaging cows, wild dogs, scorpions, monkeys, great waves, a few stitches, and amazingly friendly people.

After responding to a forum in the thread "what is the stickiest situation you have been in when travelling", I was prompted to write my CR blog.
So the next morning...
Basically, I ended up partying up all night in Pavones (about as far southwest as you can go) and long story short, I never made…
