Pleasant atmosphere, great food and good service Mar 26, 2011
We had walked around the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont and wanted both to rest our legs and to enjoy a nice glass of wine. There are three restaurants in the park, but the restaurant Le Pavillon du Lac was no doubt the best looking one.

Le Pavillon du Lac has been there for years, but was newly renovated and reopened in June 2010. On the ground floor is the garden room with large windows, brick walls, simple furniture and some sofas where you can read the newspaper or check your e-mails. WI-FI is free. The restaurant has large sliding windows, which can be opened and make the restaurant and bar more airy. With the large windows you also have a great view of the park, lake and the island with the Temple of Sybil.

Upstairs is another room and a terrace for outdoor dining. The view from the terrace is superb. The restaurant has a simple layout, but with white tablecloths, wooden floor and soft lighting. There is also a room with one big table for a private party. Outside on the ground, in front of the restaurant, there are some tables for outdoor dining as well. That is were we found a nice little table.

It was spring and a lovely day, which meant that the outdoor area was quite busy and so were the waiters. Despite the amount of people service was both quick and friendly. To accompany our glass of white wine we both ordered an appetizer. My friend had the cheese platter and I had the warm Camembert with nuts and calvados honey. They were both fabulous. The cheese platter was served on a white square plate and the Camembert on a piece of slate. To end our little meal my friend had an espresso and I had a thé gourmand, a cup of tea with small cakes, also served on a piece of slate.

Every weekend there is a concert in the restaurant. If you would like to eat during the concert, you better make a reservation. The place is popular.

I can highly recommend Le Pavilion du Lac, it offers a pleasant atmosphere, great food and good service.
