Pau is the capital of the Bearn region and the Pyrenees - Atlantiques department of France. The city started as a crossing on the Gave de Pau was a pass to and from the mountains.
There is a large student population due to the The Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour. As well as strong conections to England through Wellington, giving the city tea rooms, parks and the first French Rugby team.
The Boulevard des Pyrénées is 1.8 km from the Château de Pau to the Parc du Beaumont, with beautiful views of the pyrenees mountains.
