Patuxay " Victory Gate" Vientiane Reviews
|
A must-see Sep 29, 2009
Although it is not the official tourist icon of Laos (I am told that title goes to Pha That Luang), most travelers would find this monument more-recognizable, yes?
As another reviewer stated, the highlight is to climb to the top! But it is also worth a few minutes to just sit by the ponds in front and do some people-watching. Part of the A taste of Laos... hungry for more! travel blog

Patuxay Monument: The memorial monument of Patuxay is one of the most prominent landmark in the city of Vientiane. It is also called the Victory Monument (Laos's own Arc de Triomphe, a small replica of the Paris original) It was constructed in its prominent position on Lan Xang Avenue. architecture was inspired by the "Arc de Triomphe" in Paris, the design incorporates typical Lao motifs including "Kinnari", a mythical birdwoman.
During the day, the monument can be climbed and makes an excellent vantage point overlooking the city. Part of the Laos travel blog |
