Paton’s Birder Haven
Paton’s Birder Haven Patagonia Reviews
If you are a birder, or even just enjoy hummingbirds and all birds! Apr 27, 2013
The owner of this bird sanctuary was very much into watching and feeding birds, especially Hummingbirds. And the property is right at the edge of the Nature Conservancy’s 1350 acre Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve. This is one of the nation’s best places for all kinds of birds, including some very rare varieties. Both the husband and wife has passed away and the son has continued to allow anyone access to the large backyard area where many feeders are maintained on a daily basis. There is no charge but donations for the ‘sugar fund’ are gladly accepted. There is a large canvas canopy with chairs where you can sit in the shade and watch the activity. Also many guidebooks are tabled there to assist you in identifying the birds.
Yes, most of the feeders are for Hummingbirds, and they have many varieties visit their yard. But the day we were there we saw so many different types of birds we lost count. Also, while we were there we were no alone. Ten or twelve other folks were there with their binoculars to get a good look at the birds. And we were lucky to have one of Arizona’s top birders there too helping to identify each bird that joined the party in the yard.
It was without a doubt a very memorable experience.
