The lake was created as a result of damming of the Sonoita Creek. It measures 250 acres in surface area and two and a half miles long. It is popular for a variety of recreational activities including fishing, water skiing, boating, canoeing, kayaking etc. It is a natural habitat for birds and fish like bluegill, catfish, crappie and trout

During summer, the lake is a magnet for water sport enthusiasts; the camp grounds around the lake are completely filled. Because of this, the Park restricts water skiing and towing of recreational devices.
