Patacon Pisa'o Puerto Lopez Reviews
Delicious Colombian food in Puerto Lopez - Patacon Pisa'o Sep 14, 2009
Of course when you are somewhere you want to try the local food, so having Colombian food in Ecuador might not be part of your plans, but this place is worth it to visit. Its owners are a Colombian friendly couple.
I had to go there 2 times, before being able to actually go inside, but I'm so happy I decided to try it a 3rd time. It was delicious.
It's a small place with some tables outdoor / indoor (there is no wall but a fence). The decoration is about Colombian posters. They also have many info about Colombia. I noticed it and said to the owner, Colombia would be my next destination and he brought some info, how kind!
Now time to talk about the food. The whole menu is Colombian. We came here for lunch and decided to try different things to get in touch with the Colombian cuisine.
Appetizer: empanada Colombiana (beef pastry, meet really tender) and the Patacon Pisa'o (large, thin and crispy base of fried plantains). You can ask for different toppings, but we got the traditional hoga'o: a sauce made with tomatoes and onions similar to an Italian one.
Main dish: I had a really fresh shrimp salad and Shawn got the popular Arepas (traditional oven-baked corn tortilla) topped with shrimps and hoga'o.
Drink: juice and very good Colombian coffee :)
Food was very good. Really liked the Patacon Pisa'o and Empanada. The Arepa was good too, although I prefer the thinner tortillas. The hoga'o sauce was tastier after adding some chili, hehehe.
The service was very good and I really liked how friendly the owner was. Definitely Colombian people are great hosts!
This place is highly recommended if you are in Puerto Lopez :)
Be aware they are close on Sundays and open late, about 10am
