Note: A very special thanks to Andy and Soma at RBC for enabling our Bhutan visit!
4/28/07Not that either of us slept much after struggling to get the Sikkim trip arranged and being excited about finally making it to Bhutan, but the alarm went off at 3:15 a.m. and we blearily dragged ourselv…

The flight out of Paro back to New Delhi flew via Kathmandu. As we were early again, we managed to get seats on the right side of the plane. We were able to see Mt Jhomohari and Jichu Drake peaks above the sea of clouds shortly after departing Paro. It was a beautiful sight and the camera was click…

So it's all over. Bhutan is beautiful, the people are friendly, the food is great (as long as you ask them for the same food they eat, or else you'll get icky/bland tourist fare)...it's totally worth the trip.
We spent the last afternoon shopping for gifts and then had dinner with our guides…

According to our guide, the Tiger's nest was to be the cultural highlight of the trip as we visited Bhutan during a spell without festivals (the most popular among the Bhutanese is the one in the center of Bhutan where the female performers dance naked, I wonder why it's so hugely popular).
The Ti…

The last day we took of to Paro which was our last stop on the trip. We arrived around 11am and immediately began our hike to the Taksthang Monastery. It's also known as the Tiger's nest and is one of the most famous monasteries in Bhutan. It's built up on the edge of a cliff at over 10,000 feet. T…

Today had planned to visit the Taktshang monastery also called as Tigers Nest monastery which is perched on a sheer cliff some 900 meters above the bottom of Paro valley ground. It is the holiest monastery of Bhutan, Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown here on the back of a tigress in the 8th centu…

This is without a doubt, one of the prettiest and one of my favorite countries ever visited (out of 107). The people are so genuine and laid-back and the food is scrumptious. It is so clean, I forget I'm not in the Swiss Alps. The perfect antidote to my current home in Bangkok.

Magical Bhutan.
My heart starts banging away at the mention of Bhutan, this little explored Kingdom in the middle the Himalayas, revered as the 'Land of the Peaceful Dragon' and regarded as one of the last 'Shangri-La’s in the Himalayan region because of its remoteness, it's spectacular mountain terrain, varied flora and fauna and its unique ancient Buddhist monasteries.

The hardest part of day one was the 2am wake up call to be at the airport at 3:30 for a 5:30am flight from Bangkok to Bhutan. Check in was easy and pleasant and when we boarded the plane, I knew we were going someplace so far away. All of the signs in the plane were in Bhutanese there was a g…
