4/28/07Not that either of us slept much after struggling to get the Sikkim trip arranged and being excited about finally making it to Bhutan, but the alarm went off at 3:15 a.m. and we blearily dragged ourselves out of bed, packed up and hopped in a cab to the airport. Murli actually woke up at three something as well, just to make sure we were awake and didn’t miss our flight.

Bangkok, Thailand -› Paro, Bhutan -› ...
So it's all over. Bhutan is beautiful, the people are friendly, the food is great (as long as you ask them for the same food they eat, or else you'll get icky/bland tourist fare)...it's totally worth the trip.
We spent the last afternoon shopping for gifts and then had dinner with our guides. Then it was back to Bangkok...

The flight out of Paro back to New Delhi flew via Kathmandu. As we were early again, we managed to get seats on the right side of the plane. We were able to see Mt Jhomohari and Jichu Drake peaks above the sea of clouds shortly after departing Paro. It was a beautiful sight and the camera was clicking away furiously.

According to our guide, the Tiger's nest was to be the cultural highlight of the trip as we visited Bhutan during a spell without festivals (the most popular among the Bhutanese is the one in the center of Bhutan where the female performers dance naked, I wonder why it's so hugely popular).
