I stayed here in 2002 for the Scotland v Iceland Euro 2004 qualifier. For that purpose, it was perfectly located, being only a short 10 minute walk away from the football stadium. I can't fault the rooms, staff and breakfasts, all superb.

However, it is pretty badly located if you are looking for a night out on the town. It is in what I would best describe as on the edge of a suburb. The town is within around 20 minutes walking distance to the main restaurant \ club area in 101 Reykjavík (the hotel is in the 108 district, so is better located for those who have business in the 105 financial district). Given that Icelandic weather is frequently changable, add another 15 minutes if the weather is cold and wet.

The main road, only 5 minutes away, has reasonably frequent local bus services that will take you to the bus station or through to the centre if you change at the bus station. The bus station is not really a place to go to at night, however. Like most cities worldwide, vagrants tend to congregate around here at night, although I have never been bothered by any of them, it is worth taking a bit of extra care.

In summary, one for the suits, not the party people!
