Old GDR Tower with 1000 bedrooms... Jul 18, 2008
This is an utterly fantastic hotel right in the centre of Alexanderplatz, next to the TV tower. It's close obviously to the Alex station and a big shopping center and is central to all the main sites in Berlin.
For just over €100 per night, it really has alot going for it. Probably because of it's East German heritage it boasts some of the largest Hotel rooms I've ever seen. Entrance room, reception area... The only thing that is a bit of a drawback is that it would not be suitable for those sharing who are not romantically involved. Basically, the bedroom adjoins the bathroom and though the toilet is tastefully screened off with a glaze effect, the shower door is pure glass therefore it is very good for a romantic break... Really affordable hotel in the center of the former East-Berlin side of the city. Big plus of this hotel is the height of it: 37 floors! Casino on top, big view over the city! The hotel is really affordable, but it might pay out when you pay a little more for a room with a view on the 'Fernseherturn' (TV-Tower). Shops are around, so are some (not much) restaurants too. It's across the subway- and trainstation Berlin Alexandersplatz.

I find a train and spend a blank minute examining the maze of S / U bahn train routes... Spandau line, that's what we want... I spend 10 mins sitting on an impressively clean train surrounded by my fellow Germans, of which there are four or five. It's eleven stops to Alexanderplatz and the Park Inn Hotel, I think...
