Classy and Comfortable NYC Hotel Dec 02, 2015
The Park Central Hotel in New York City is located on 7th Avenue between 55th and 56th Streets, across the street from Carnegie Hall and a few blocks from Central Park. It has changed names several times over the years: Park Sheraton in the 1940’s, New York Sheraton in the 1970, Omni Park Central in the 1990’s and back to its original name of Park Central in the 1990’s. It has a rather storied and colorful history since it was built in 1927. It was a favorite of Mae West over the years and Eleanor Roosevelt kept a suite there. Many current celebrities are also known to stay here. It is also the site of a couple of high-profile murders: Jewish Gangster Arnold Rothstein was shot in a suite during his regular card game in 1928 and Mobster Albert Anastasia was shot and killed in the hotel barber shop in 1957. Anastasia was head of what is now called the Gambino Crime Family, one of the City’s Five Families, and head of the hired killers gang, Murder Inc. Apparently the murder remains unsolved.

Don’t let these notorious events scare you away and they are just part of New York City’s colorful past. The hotel is modern and up to date, having gone through a $65 million dollar renovation in 2011. Very elegant hotel with spacious rooms and many amenities to enjoy. A bit on the expensive side, but what isn’t in New York City? Upper floors have some nice views of the city. Wifi is not free, unfortunately, but phone calls within the USA are free. The subway is located only a block away at 57th Street

If flying through Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and need transport between the airport and New York City then visit the website - ( for transport options. A good option is the Newark Airport Express Bus ($16 one way) and it stops at Grand Central Station (41st Street between Park and Lexington avenues), Bryant Park (42nd Street and 5th Avenue), Port Authority Bus Terminal (41st Street between 8th and 9th avenues). From the metro at Bryant Park (42nd Street), you can get to 57th St. this will take you to within a block of the hotel.

comfortable, clean hotel in the heart of Manhattan Jul 27, 2009
I'm surprised by the other reviews because I loved this hotel. I was on the 11th floor room 1153 (I think) it was a corner room with a view of 7th avenue.

I stayed at this hotel with my daughter in July 09. Hotels in New York are expensive but I managed to get a good deal (with breakfast) on Expedia for about £95 a night - a four night for three night deal.

This hotel was in an absolutely perfect location. It was a five minute walk to Central Park (hence the name)and a ten minute walk to Time Square. If I hadn't been there with my teenage daughter I probably would have stayed in the Soho/Greenwhich area which is more my style but I enjoyed the buzz of this area.

The hotel was very smart and the room we ended up with was big, clean and spacious with a view of 7th Avenue. The bed itself was also very, very comfortable. We were originally given a room facing some inner square looking opposite other bedrooms but after a quick word with the receptionist we were switched to a room with a view.

Online it listed breakfast as continental so I was not expecting much. In fact it was a full and very tasty breakfast with bacon, eggs, pancakes and lots of fresh fruit and yoghurt. The breakfast room was bright and airy with huge windows with a view of the New York streets lined with yellow taxis. A perfect start to the day!!

The staff around the hotel and in the breakfast room were really nice and polite. The rooms were also cleaned adequately every morning to a high standard.

My only criticism is the lifts were VERY slow. Being on the 11th floor this was quite irritating. We were told by reception they had installed some new system which gives priority to people going up but it seemed like they forgot about the people going down! We soon worked out you have to press to go up for the lift to arrive (sometimes empty) then when you are in you hit the ground floor button, crazy I know!!
